Making screen time count for a 13-year-old learning Spanish

Set it up once, pick A1 and let the homework tabs do the rest. Here is what a parent needs to know before installing.

In short
  • It works on the pages they already read for school.
  • At A1, NativeLingo picks a few simple, frequent words.
  • Five new words a day settles at under ten minutes of review.

What they need

All a teen needs is Chrome on a laptop or desktop and a Google account to sign in with.

The word swaps only work in Chrome on a computer, although the word list and the daily review also work in a phone browser.

Setting it up in ten minutes

Install the extension, sign in with their Google account, and pick Spanish or whichever language they take at school.

Choose School & exams as the reason, then let them take the level test, or pick A1 if they are just starting.

A1casa shownsubvención skipped

At A1 NativeLingo swaps common words like “casa” and leaves rare ones alone, so only about one word in a hundred changes and never more than two.

What it leaves alone

NativeLingo changes nothing on email, banking, payment or sign-in pages, and it never touches password forms, text fields or code.

They can also pause it on any site in one click, for example during a test, and the page text never leaves the browser.

The daily review

Every word they meet goes into a short review where they type the translation, which on most days takes a minute or two.

Keep the goal at five new words a day, and after a year it settles at 7–10 minutes of review a day.

If they read, they learn, and if they skip a day, nothing breaks.

What to expect

This builds vocabulary rather than grammar, so it works best next to their class instead of replacing it.

The first weeks feel light. The value shows after a few months, once words from the review start turning up in class.
