- Audio and subtitles change in one menu while the episode plays.
- Missing languages often depend on the title, your region or profile settings.
- For learning, change one thing at a time: first the audio, then the subtitles.
Change audio and subtitles while watching
To change subtitle language on Netflix, start an episode in the browser. Open the Audio & Subtitles menu, the speech bubble icon. Pick the audio on one side and the subtitles on the other.
Netflix remembers the choice for that profile and that show, so the next episode starts the same way.
When a language is missing
Each title has its own set of languages, and the set differs between countries. Netflix also shows a limited list per profile, which you can widen in the profile language settings.
Which combination to use
Change one thing at a time. If both the audio and the subtitles become foreign at once, most people lose the plot.
Swapped words on Netflix
NativeLingo can swap a few words in Netflix subtitles into the language you learn. It is a beta and off by default: turn on “Subtitles on Netflix (beta)” in the extension popup.
It changes only the subtitle text already on your screen. It does not touch the stream, and the subtitles never leave your device.
Questions
The title may not have it in your country, or your profile shows a shorter list.
Not in the standard player. NativeLingo swaps a few words instead of adding a second line.
Netflix remembers it per show and profile, so check it when you start a new one.
